About

Hand Job Zine

Is a literary zine that shows a wide range of new and fresh work from around the UK.

We are currently not accepting any submission at this time, please check again at a later date.

We post our submission calls on here at sporadic intervals but it would be helpful if you purchased an issue first to see what we’re all about.

Here’s the basics.

We are looking for new writing in a range of formats:

Short Stories
Flash Fiction
Poetry

Or any piece of writing you would like to submit to make up the zine really.

We are looking for work that has a fresh style of writing, that will entertain readers and amuse, whilst implicitly commenting on society. But if it doesn’t fit that mould, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not for us.

The subject can be anything at all, as long as it is well written, interesting and for an adult audience (by that we don’t mean porno though!). Say what you want to and not what you think you should.

It can be of any length… within reason. Remember, we are an A5 zine so there is a limited amount of space for each issue.

As well as writing we are also looking for people who either want to help illustrate some pieces of writing or just to have their artwork featured in the zine.

We are open to all forms of art that can be accessible through our format, so please feel free to e-mail us about any other interesting ideas. We are always open to hearing new ideas.

If you feel you can contribute in any way please contact: handjobzine@gmail.com with your work or ideas. We do not open any attachments (well, we try not to), so please put your work in the body of the e-mail.

Also, we are always open to submissions for the blog and you have a higher chance of being accepted as we do not have the same spacial limitations as we do in print.

Now you just have to drop us a line!

Up the rebels!

This is a video that we produced as part of an article for Open Pen Magazine that aims to show a visual representation of the zine.

Co-editor Jim Gibson was has had an interview with Martin Appleby of Paper and Ink Zine and quite a while ago now, both Jim and Sophie were interviewed by Leftlion, a Nottingham free culture magazine.

Two reviews of back issues are available here. One by Sea Green Zine and another by DJ Frederick. Also, the brilliant Abbie Foxton reviews some great stuff and has done us a few reviews now.

We made the longlist for the 2016 Saboteur awards, that was quite an achievement for a zine our size!

Now sit back and watch some of the writers that read at our issue 9 launch party, along with party hard punks White Finger.
