The Big Hand Job Literary Zine Anthology Launch

“Narrow alley buzz. It’s easy to talk. No glue of type. Difference = exchange.”

Hand Job zine is coming to an indefinite end. That’s the bad news. On the plus side though, we’ve got our Anthology to launch to celebrate this, which means… another infamous Hand Job zine party! The anthology and the night will be brought to you by new local publisher, Hi Vis Press, and it will be bigger and better as it’s a bit of a send-off party too.

The Anthology is the most unique publication you will have ever had your hands on, I can near enough guarantee that. We’ve been working closely with the finest artisan printers in Nottingham, Dizzy Ink, to ensure that this is the case. 13 Authors in an A4 publication, bolted together, Swiss bound with triangular inserts and even a tracing paper overlays. Has this got you interested? Well come down to THE CHAMELEON ARTS CAFÉ on the 3RD OF MARCH from 6PM (first act at 7pm) and you’ll be able to get your hands on one of these beauties before anyone else.

Everyone who’s been to a HJ launch party before will tell you the score. It’s like a community that no-one knew was there, crawls out of the woodwork and anyone who turns up is instantly a part of it. Dean Lilleyman said it here. Everyone is a part of the happening. We have a line-up of the finest writers we can find and it is the writing that’s judged, not the spoken word prowess but the pure power of what is being said. All compered the inimitable Notts-Cockney, Miggy Angel. Then we have a band and afterwards everyone is free to jell, drink, get merry and have a night to remember to some banging tunes on the sound system. It’s an intimate venue that lends itself so well to readings of this kind.

This time we have a few added a few extras. We’ve got a row of zine stalls where we will be selling other people’s zines as well people travelling down to sell some on the night. So far we have: Paper and Ink, Abbie Foxton’s reviews, Glove Mag, Here Comes Everyone and a selection of Mark Beechill’s zines, with more to be confirmed. The other thing is, it may still be 3 quid on the door but how does a FREE SHOT OF TEQUILLA sound? Yeah, you know the score.

The lineup so far consists of:

Betty Blakey

Martin Appleby of Paper and Ink zine

Ben William

Raif Mansell

Terence Corless

Jamie Thrasivoulou

Tom McColl

Miggy Angel

Holly Watson aka The Coventry Conch

Amy Victoria Gray

Dean Lilleyman and Beth Aveyard

Then topped off with music from:

Cheers, Christopher. The Anthology looks amazing and we’ll still be publishing lit with Hi Vis, just a progression really. Peace.

  2. Sottoscrivo totalmente.
