postcards of hitler by John Grochalski

postcards of hitler

there are
no postcards of hitler
anywhere in berlin
no images of him
waving to his masses
or sitting sober in a beer hall
while hard-selling genocide
hitler hocks no products in germany
there’s no adolph
selling coffee or coca-cola
or those delicious ritter sport chocolates
that they make
with white chocolate and corn flakes
he’s not pushing a moustache grooming set
no, the only thing they have for good old fuhrer
is a marker where his bunker once stood
a blue placard
that has been continuously covered over in graffiti
it tells you the layout of the famous hideout
tourists crowd around it by the dozens
taking photos of the thing
the placard is so innocuous
that most of them won’t recognize it
when they go to post their vacation photos online
it’ll probably get deleted
not make the cut
i get it, the germans want to forget the man
as they should
but the american in me is going wild with marketing ideas
hitler plush dolls and dartboards
a lego bunker set
