Issue 8, 9 and the launch party

Just a quick update for everyone as to where we are at the minute cos it’s been a bit mad lately.

Me and Sophie have been working six days a week, getting home knackered and going ‘fuck. That zine needs to get done…’ After a long time we did actually produce a zine though. Issue 8 and it can be bought on our Big Cartel site.

The long, strenuous task that we haven’t really got time for and costs us both money would normally have been over for a bit of a spell. But it’s not. We got with the ‘fuck it’attitude and are forcing ourselves into because, let’s face it, it’s a mighty fine zine we’ve got going and the people involved deserve our hard work. There are a few other zines publishing the similar work and we can’t let this movement loose its pace. So, we’ve booked a launch night/party for issue 9 on the 23rd of October and are getting cracking with the next zine already. We don’t really have a choice!

We haven’t opened for submissions this time though as we took on four times too much for the last issue and had to split into two. Meaning issue 8 is a mammoth of a fucker and 9 will be even bigger. This regretfully translates to cost but with the rate of inflation, the size of the zine and the quality of production, we feel that people won’t notice it going up 50p an issue unless we tell them.

There will be more information about the launch party with an update poster coming in the weeks to come, so keep your eyes peeled but so far the line-up is pretty sweet with the likes of Dean Lilleyman, Joseph Ridgwell, the brilliant Coventry Conch, Luke Humphries, Ben William and Miggy Angel, most of which feature in issue 9 as well. We will have music in the form of White Finger, the best punk band in Nottingham by a long way at the minute, before playing music and cracking on with the partying. Tell your friends, this won’t be a night to be missed!

This launch night will be a night literature won’t be able to forget but there is also another motive behind it. We need your money. We’re going to make a book in place of issue 10; we can’t just let the PUSH boys have all of the glory, so we will be raising some money on the night selling back issues and more that we haven’t thought of yet. The book will probably then be out in the new year.

Everyone get down, I know a few people have already booked their hotels and train tickets, so you’ve got no excuse. Me and Sophie recently camped on Joe Ridgwell’s back garden to make it to the PUSH 2 launch! If anyone is struggling let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

And if you need more reason to get involved the here’s John Cooper Clarke with his issue 7…
